Ciruela has a thin, waxy, smooth skin that is red or yellow (depending on the variety) when ready to eat. When ripe, the flesh of the fruit is yellow and sweet, reminiscent of a mix of mango and citrus. This fruit can also be consumed green. The underripe fruit Hog Plum is mouth puckeringly tart, most people will enjoy it
